Exploring Contemporary Realism

Our watercolor class has been looking at some contemporary realists and have been inspired to try this style and technique.  Maria  and classmate Kim Ross spent the better part of an afternoon cutting and photographing various types of fruit and vegetables for to use as reference photos.  I tried a kiwi, shown below.  I also tried an iris from a photo reference, and I'm happier with how it turned out.

These really photographed nicely too. Just love the depth and layers in the iris.

Thanks Jill. You definitely should finish your flower. Did you choose to do an iris? Maria, thanks. I'm glad I didn't give up on this iris after the first session. It was frustrating me there for awhile.
